Update on Rowsandall to Intervals.icu migration
We are progressing well on the migration. Here’s what’s happened in the past few weeks:
- Discussion with David (intervals.icu owner) on built-in support for rowing specific fields (catch, finish angle, drive length, stroke distance, drive and recovery time, etc). To strengthen the case, we would need to align the Rowing Data App community to align on which Developer Fields to use in their FIT file exports to support these data. I am reaching out to the people I know to see if we can align. The better the alignment, the higher the chance David adopts this.
- Rowing courses: Instead of building in this functionality in intervals.icu, we have decided to build a companion app on https://rownative.icu/. The idea is that this is a community supported companion app where users can upload rowing course KML files. We will also port the CrewNerd integration with Rowsandall for courses to this companion app. Support for Speed Orders (OTW challenges) is planned to be added later this year. Currently in Alpha so there may be big changes in functionality.
- In-stroke data: No decision yet on support for in-stroke data (seat speed, oar angle speed, force curve, etc). Community help welcome here. Hopefully the courses companion app inspires people to build a in-stroke data companion app. This would also require deciding how the in-stroke data are to be exported from rowsandall.com and from rowing apps.
- Data migration: A prototype has been built on Rowsandall.com for exporting all your workout data as a batch of zip files containing FIT. As the FIT developer fields discussion is still ongoing, I am asking users to hold off using the functionality until the FIT specification is stable. Then, you can download your Rowsandall data in one go.
- Course migration: All existing courses have already been migrated to https://rownative.icu/ but on Rowsandall.com there is a new button “Download my courses” on https://rowsandall.com/rowers/list-courses/ . You can use this to download the courses you manage as well as a list of liked courses, all in one zip file. On https://rownative.icu/ you can log in with your intervals.icu credentials and upload the zip file.
Let me know if you would like to see any other functionality ported or support for downloading additional data. Ideally, write a post on https://forum.intervals.icu/t/support-for-rowing-data-migrating-from-rowsandall-com/117915/45 where all the discussions are currently happening.
